273. IAP (from 21.11.1943 31st GIAP)
In 1942 it flew as part of the Southwest Front near Kharkov and was armed with Yak-1 fighters. He subsequently fought on the Southern Front, where his pilots flew over the Sea of Azov, the Donbas, and the Crimea. In late 1943 they operated over Nikopol and the regiment became part of the 4th Ukrainian Front, as the Southern Front was renamed. In August, the regiment replaced the Yak-1 fighters with new Yak-3 machines and moved to the 2nd Ukrainian Front. It was deployed to actions over Romania and Hungary.
