The Project 06363 class of fighter attack submarines was developed by the Rubin design bureau as a modernization of the Project 877 and Project 636 classes (NATO code: Kilo). The first 6 submarines of this class (B-261 Novorossiysk, B-237 Rostov-on-Don, B-262 Stary Oskol, B-265 Krasnodar, B-268 Velikiy Novgorod, B-271 Kolpino)began construction in 2010-2011 for the needs of the Black Sea Fleet and entered service in 2014-2016. The second series of 6 submarines (B-274 Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, B-603 Volchov, B-602 Magadan, B-588 Ufa, B-??? Mozhaisk, B-???? Yakutsk) for the needs of the Pacific Fleet began construction in 2017-2021. So far, the last contract for the construction of one submarine was signed on 25.08.2020 (tentatively for the Baltic Fleet with the name Petrozavodsk).


Project 06363 submarines are interceptor attack submarines designed to search for and destroy submarines and surface vessels of the adversary. They are armed with six 533mm caliber torpedo tubes, for which they have a supply of 18 torpedoes, or 24 mines. Missile armament consists of a Kalibr PL submarine set with 3M-54K (anti-ship) or 3M-14K (cruise missiles) missiles, also usable against land-based targets. Sources indicate 4-6 missiles, but Russian intelligence, commenting on the activities of these submarines in connection with the combat campaign in Syria, indicates the firing of 7-14 missiles in a single action.
