Panzer-Abteilung Tatra was established at the end of August 1944 for the newly formed Panzer Division Tatra, whose task was to participate in the occupation of Slovakia and suppress the Slovak National Uprising.
The detachment was formed using Tank Replacement and Training Detachment 4, (garrisoned in Mödling, Austria (Military District XVII)), and armed with twenty-eight medium tanks Pz.Kpfw. III and Pz.Kpfw. IV and three heavy Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger, and later received a light Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) and several Soviet T-34/76 booty.
After the liquidation of the Uprising, he performed training tasks within the Tatra Tank Training Division and after its transformation into the 232nd Tank Division, he was deployed in its composition and destroyed together with it in March 1945 in northwestern Hungary.
