President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the head of the SBU secret service, Ivan Bakanov, for dereliction of duty that led to human casualties and other serious consequences. He also dismissed Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova, who has previously been criticised for corruption and abuse of power. She will be replaced by her deputy, Oleksiy Symonenko. One of the reasons for the dismissal of the two senior figures is that a significant number of their subordinates have remained in Russian-occupied territories and are actively cooperating with the enemy.
