Order of Victory

It was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 8 November 1943 as the highest Soviet military order. According to the statutes, it is awarded to members of the senior command corps for the successful execution of such combat operations which took place on the scale of one or several fronts and as a result of which the situation fundamentally changed in favour of the Soviet Army. It is worn on the left side of the chest twelve to fourteen inches above the waist. The names of those decorated are inscribed on a special commemorative plaque in the Grand Kremlin Palace as a mark of their exceptional distinction.
