9K115 Metis (AT - 7 Saxhorn)
9K115 Metis (missile designation 9M115) is the last PTRK of the second generation. It was developed at KBP during the 1970s and was introduced into service in 1978. This PTRK was never exported. From this PTRK a new PTRK 9K127 Metis-M was developed. This set uses the SACLOS guidance system with the transmission of control signals over the conductor. The 9M115 missile did not have much modernization potential (significant improvement of tactical and technical parameters).

It is a set with a semi-automatic system of guidance after the intentional, when the activity of the shooter is limited to maintaining the target in the middle of the crosshairs of the sight, throughout the flight of the guided missile. Commands for flight path correction are sold automatically to the missile via a microcable.

Principle of operation: during firing, the guided missile is swept from the container by the starting engine and at a safe distance, the main engine is ignited. The low impulse of the starting engine allows the use of PTRK METIS from enclosed spaces, 1.8 m of free space behind the launcher is sufficient.

Composition: - launcher 9P 151
- control unit 9S 816
- container with stored projectile 9M115M

The guided missile has an effective combat range from 80 to 1000 m, caliber 93 mm, is equipped with a simple cumulative combat part weighing 2.5 kg with a piercing of 460 mm rolled homogeneous armor. The weight of PTRS, spoule with transport - launch container is 6 kg. The launcher weighs 10 kg and is equipped with an optical sight with 6x magnification. For night use, a thermal imaging unit can be connected.

9K115-2 Metis-M (AT - 13 Saxhorn)

PTRK 9K127 Metis-M.
METIS PTRK is improved. The launcher is adapted for use with older 9M115 guided missiles, but mainly new ones, marked 9M116. With a length of 980 mm and a caliber of 130 mm, this new guided missile has an increased effective combat range from 40 to 1500 m. To combat small-scale targets, a version of the projectile weighing 4.95 kg, with a thermobaric warhead (liquid explosive), is designed to create an air explosion.
The total weight of the projectile with the transport-launch container is 13.8 kg.
PTRK during transport, is carried by a two-member operator, in two bags. The first bag contains the launcher and PTRS, weighs 24.5 kg. The second bag contains two pieces of PTRS and weighs 28.6 kg. If the system is supplemented with a night vision device, the bag reach has a different composition. In the first bag, there is a launcher and a night vision device, the bag weighs 26 kg. In the second, there are two PTRS and the bag weighs 28.6 kg.
PTRK METIS is introduced in the armament of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Ukraine, the Republic of Poland and is also used by the Armed Forces of Bulgaria, where it is mass-produced under license.

Thermal imaging devices are offered as an optional accessory by the Moscow company ELERS - ELEKTRON. These night vision devices, called TRAKT MULAT - 115 and SOKOL, represent converters of thermal radiation in the infrared wavelength (in the band 7.5 - 12.5 m) into a visible image. The image is created using optical diodes and rotating mirrors of a counter (scanner). A series of photoresistors is made of CdHgTe-based material and is used as an optoelectronic sensor. The photoresistors are cooled with liquid nitrogen at a temperature of 77 degrees Kelvin. The refrigerant is stored in a pressure vessel.
The advantage of these thermal imagers is the simplicity and reliability of their technological solution, small dimensions, low weight and the possibility of mounting on various types of PTRK (FAGOT, KONKURS, METIS).

Like Metis, this set also uses the SACLOS guidance system with the transmission of control signals over the conductor. KBP has developed a completely new PTRS 9M131 with a tandem cumulative warhead (increase in penetration from 460 to 900 mm of homogeneous armor). The range increased by 500m to 1500m. A missile with a thermobaric warhead was developed to destroy the unarmored. The Metis-M complex has high hopes in the Russian Federation and is currently being offered for export.

Unlike the FAGOT and KONKURS systems, the METIS rocket clearly strives for substantial simplification
and reducing the cost of a single-use rocket and transferring all calculations to ground equipment.
The homing coordinator 9S817 monitors the pyrotechnic track located at the end of the stabilizer
rockets rotating in flight 7-12 rpm. Not only deviations from the aiming axis are calculated from the spiral path of the tracker
but also the current orientation of the rudder axis relative to the ground. Thanks to this, the rocket does not have to have a gyroscope, a commutator of deflections
rudders and electronics block. The rudders are newly powered by a stream of rising air.

The flight time of the rocket at 1000 m is 5.6 s, the average speed of the rocket is 180 m/s.

Launcher 9P151.

When comparing with the 9P135 launcher, we find that a small addition of electronics with circuits evaluating in the filter block and the rotation of the rocket around the longitudinal axis could significantly simplify the rocket itself. The Metis system rocket receives direct commands to flip a single pair of rudders in the form of a +-150 V signal, depending on the rocket's rotation about the longitudinal axis. The energy required for flipping is minimized by the use of a "booster" driven by a current of charging air.
Compared to the Konkurs system, where signals of correction magnitude in the horizontal and vertical directions came in for the wires, the need for a gyroscope, a deflection commutator, a second pair of rudders, and an on-board pyrotechnically started battery to power the stopwatch bulb and two pairs of rudder power solenoids was eliminated.
This may have reduced production costs and in turn increased the reliability and durability of the rockets.
The entire Metis suite is powered by a single pyrobattery on the missile container, activated within 0.3 s of impact by the launcher.
