PL-5


PL-5 missiles belong to the most widespread Chinese PLRS. They are a copy of the American AIM-9G Sidewinder. Development began in the sixties and the missile was adopted into service in 1986. Currently, a radically modified version of the PL-5E is in production, which can maneuver with an overload of up to 40 G. Known versions of this missile are: PL-5A, PL- 5B, PL-5C and PL-5E.

A short-range, infrared-guided Generation 3+ missile. The advanced dual-wavelength (dual-color) sensor offers improved head-on target acquisition capability and increased resistance to infrared deception. The approach fuse is laser, the warhead fragmentation. The missile is capable of hitting maneuvering targets with up to 7g overload. It is supposed to be all-aspect, but it is not specified at what range.
