history
The squadron is formed on 1 February 1918 at Thetford as a bombardment base, but never acquired operational capability and is disbanded on 4 July 1918.
On 7 October 1941, it is reconstituted in Sierra Leone against possible attacks by the French Vichy Fighter Squadron 95 Squadron and operates there until its disbandment on 8 March 1943.
It was last reconstituted on 5 September 1944 at Wyton in the UK as part of 8th RAF Group and continued to attack targets in Germany and occupied Europe until the end of the war, marking targets for subsequent bomber raids. With the end of the war, it is transferred to 2nd RAF Group and operates as part of the British occupation forces in Belgium and Germany until 31 March 1946, when it ceases to exist by re-designation as 14 Squadron.
