150th Autonomous Group

At the beginning of the war it was subject to the 53rd Storm, on October 23 it became an independent unit with its CR.42. This was followed by a transfer to Wallonia and the subordination of Commando Aeronautica Albania. At the same time there was a rearmament of the MC.200 and then intensive involvement in the fighting with Greece. It operated from Valona and Devoli. During more than a year of combat operations in the Balkans, the group lost many good pilots, including the commander of the 364th and 365th Sq. Captain Magaldi and Graffer.
After the Axis victory in Greece, the 150th Gruppo was relocated to North Africa along with 371.Sq. assigned from the 22nd Gruppo. At this time, the unit had 25 MC,200 and served from the base in Benghasi, where missions to protect the port flew missions to protect convoys between Tripoli and Tobruk. A smaller amount of MC.202 was assigned to the unit in mid-1942. Placed back in Lecce in November, it left its worn-out MC.200 at the disposal of the 8th Gruppo.
Back in Italy, the unit began to rearm for the Bf 109, already received a mixture of 49 machines versions F-4, G-4 and G-6. Fully equipped in April, she was thrown into action over Sicily from Sciacca Airport, where many of its members lost their lives in constant air and ground attacks while defending the island. At the time of the invasion, Gruppo had only 25 serviceable fighters on July 3.
After winning more than a dozen victories over Sicily, she was transferred back to Torino Casselle on July 28, 1943. The remnants of the 150th Group remained in northern Italy even after the signing of the armistice on September 8, 1943.
