History of TOW:
In 1957, the US military began to consider the idea of a guided anti-tank missile with command control over the wire. In 1963, Hughes produced a successful prototype and deliveries of the first series missiles began in 1969. The first combat deployment took place in Vietnam in 1972. The abbreviation TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided missile) means a T-s projectile fired, W- sighted, W - guided on a wire.
