Canon M1910/30
The project of modernization of the 107 mm M1910 gun was carried out by the Orudijno-Arsenalnyy Trestem (OAT) and the design bureau of the NTK GAU. The main purpose of the modernization of the gun was to increase its range and effectiveness. NTK GAU built two experimental guns: with a barrel length of 38 calibers, stretch brakes, and redesigned cartridge chambers to use the new ammunition. In addition to counterweights against the barrel, a 300 kg weight was placed in the cradle of the gun. The second gun had a 37.5 caliber barrel and a muzzle brake, to compensate for the higher weight of the barrel, the cradle of the receiver was reduced in size, but the breech was more massive- the sides were enlarged (which increased the weight of the end of the barrel). Both guns were tested - muzzle velocity was 700 m/s.
The final design of the gun upgrade was based on the following points: 1) The barrel was lengthened by 10 calibers. 2) Installation of a 25% effective muzzle brake. 3) Lengthening the chamber. 4) The breech was shortened by 160 mm, 5) Placing blocks (weights) on the sides of the breech and the gun's lafette.
In total 139 guns of the model 1910 were modernized. The cannon was named "107 mm gun model 1910/30". All of these guns remained in the English peacetime system. At the same time, all the newly manufactured guns (430 pieces), produced according to the same design, were converted in the metric system and were called "107 mm gun 1910/30n". The cannons were produced in 1932-1935 by the factories "Bolshevicka" and "Barikady", mainly gun barrels for 107-mm guns. Also they redrilled all the existing old 106.7mm caliber guns. In July 1941 a total of 863 guns of the 107-mm gun model 1910/30(n) served in the Red Army.
The new (or upgraded) gun had a 25% muzzle brake, a piston breech and a new gun tube of Shneider design. The gun could be fitted with either steel or wooden stakes. Both types of wheels had the same 1250 mm diameter, the steel wheel was fitted with a 120x14 mm rubber casing.
The use of old ammunition and the insertion of whole 107-mm ammunition was forbidden, because the bullet always burst inside the barrel. Also, firing with a full powder charge was prohibited unless the gun had a muzzle brake.
