The weapon is characterized by the use of a wedge-type slide and a lever-operated cartridge inserter, which allows to shorten the slide carrier travel and thus increase the cadence. Similar design features were successfully used in the 1950s by the designer Afanasiev in the AM-23 (23x115 calibre) and 2A14 (23x152 calibre) cannon.
