T-72M

Soviet medium tank produced in the Czechoslovak license T-72M (export version T-72A).

Production in ZTS Martin followed the original T-72 in 1985 and lasted until 1986, when the production of a modernized version [ url=/topic/view/39078/] T-72M1[/url]. A total of 251 tanks of the T-72M modification were produced in Czechoslovakia.

By 1990, the Czechoslovak army had to buy 973 tanks of the series T-72, of which 175 were in the T-72M version. The users of the Czechoslovak T-72M also included German Democratic Republic. The first T-72M tanks from ZTS Martin were received by East German 7. tank division (apparently it was its 16th Tank Regiment) in January 1986.

Differences from version T-72:
- number of ammunition for the cannon 2A46 increased from 39 to 44 rounds
- introduced side protection against cumulative bullets along the entire length of the vehicle
- treatment of flammable materials and inlets against flammable substances
- TVNE-4PA driver's infrared scope replaced by TVNE-4B
- reconstructed driver's seat
- smoke grenade launchers
- protection against flammable substances

Consequence of driving through the terrain with the driver's hatch open at the 2004 Muds - if I'm not mistaken they are boys from the active reserve company. Otherwise, the driver is the one on the right behind the hatch and make no mistake, he is not wearing a solid color uniform, but standard camouflage vz.95, just somehow mud was flying in and out of the open hatch and the driver got the same dose of mud as his T-72. I'd definitely want to wash it then.

After the demise of the GDR removed the Americans from Bundeswehr surplus after the former German people's army to increase the realism of the training of their units. In 1991, inter alia, it was about 59 tanks of series T-72, the other 27 followed by the year 1993. Most likely, among them was the machine shown on this slide, which however is not obvious whether it was made in CZECHOSLOVAKIA or POLAND. American T-72 perform (perform ?) during exercises the role of enemy forces OPFOR (Opposing Force). The T-72M on the slide was captured in a military area of Camp Pendleton in training members of the marine corps (tank attended by members of the 3rd Amphibious Armored Vehicle Battalion), June 1997..

As part of its military assistance to Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian War in 2022, the Czech Republic delivered several dozen older tanks of the T-72 series and BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles. This was a donation from the Czech army's stockpile, which the Czech Republic agreed with its NATO allies. For example, on Monday, 5 April 2022, five T-72M tanks (incorrectly listed as T-72M1) and five BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, shown in the photo below, were shipped by train to Ukraine.

Apparently damaged Ukrainian tank T-72M [T-72M] (or T-72M1 [T-72M1]) abandoned about 1 km northwest of the village of Petrivka during the Ukrainian counter-offensive against Russian forces deployed north of Kherson, Russian-Ukrainian War, c. 31. The tank is fitted with Kontakt-1 reactive armor, which was apparently supplied by the Czech company STV GROUP.
