Squadron was formed 22. 08. at the base of Bramcote from the staff evakuovaného from France and almost immediately began training on light bombers Fairey Battle. At the beginning of November, when already half of the crew ready for night operations, it was decided to equip the aircraft, a Vickers Wellington, thereby retraining and training began at the base of the Syerston all over again.

Because the base Syerston did not have paved runways, the training thanks to the weather drag on. Up to 24. April, the squadron became operational and already that same night took the first raid (Rotterdam), which participated in the two crew commanders of the F/O Syma and F/Lt Czetowicze. In the further course of the year taking raids on targets in occupied Europe and Germany. During the year, has taken 214 combat flights in the length of the 1202 hours. 7 airmen were killed in accidents during training, 6 of the pilots of the crew of the F/O Blicharze fell into captivity (navigator F/O J. Mondschein was murdered by the gestapo after escaping from prison camp Stalag Luft III in Saganu in 1944) and 35 airmen were killed during the operating years (including the british commander).

Squadron continue its raids on the continent. In the night from 24. 25. April unit celebrated the year of the operational deployment event in Rotterdam all the crews squadron. Because of the huge losses of the crews of all Polish bomber squadrons and a lack of backups was, however, after consultation of the Inspectorate of the PSP and the Bomber Command translated to Coastal Command (the Headquarters of the coastal force). 10. may relocated to the base of Tiree in the Hebrides and started with the practice of new tasks, which consisted mainly of search and destruction of German submarines and ships and patrols over the convoy. Already 26. may the crew of the mjr. Buczmy attacked northwest of Ireland by the submarine and her attack was assessed as "probably destroyed". 13. June, the squadron moved to the base of Dale in south Wales and fulfil the same tasks over the Bay of biscay the bay. In the night from 25. 26.June 7 crews in the squadron also took part in the "tisícového" raid on Bremen, from which not one of the crew.
During the year, the squadron completed 739 sorties (BC - 216, CC - 523), has seen 9 successful attacks on submarines and on-board gunners shot down or damaged 6 enemy aircraft. For BC lost 32 killed and 10 captured airmen, for CC 24 soldiers were killed in combat years and 8 soldiers were killed in the accidents.

Squadron patrolling in the area of the bay of Biscay. Found and attacked on 4 submarines. Twice the crew protect themselves against enemy fighters (attack 4 JU-88 at Wellington S/Ldr Ladra DFC from the 09. February lasted for 58 min, the injured were two members of the crew). Since September was přezbrojována aircraft Wellington GR Mk.XIV is equipped with the latest radar equipment and the searchlight "Leigh Lights". After retraining the crew carry out only the night flights in an average length of 10 to 12 hours. Completed a total of 574 of operational flights in the length of 4 770 hours.

Squadron proceeds in patrolling over Biskajem. 21. September has been moved to the base of Benbecula on the Hebrydách, because after the occupation of the French ports by the allied troops of the German submarines to their expeditions issued from Norway.
Attacked on 12 submarines and 1 destroyer, and a total of got off 1,010 of operational flights in the length of 9,295 hours. The crew several times have undergone combat with enemy fighters. For shooting down , the Me-110 the shooter was Sgt Barański awarded the DFM.
During the martial years we lost two of the crew (both had been shot down during the April - 13 fallen). On board the second plane as a supernumerary member was a former squadron commander and at that time deputy chief of staff of the Polish air force (Inspektoratu PSP) W/Cdr With. Poziomek. Other 5 airmen died in January during a training flight.

To 6. march, the squadron operated over the North Atlantic. Then shifted to the south of England and up to the end of the war the patrol over the English Channel, the Bristol bay and the gulf of St. george. George. The last contact with the submarine continued 22. march and last operating years passed 30.may.
During this period of time without loss attacked on 6 submarines.

14. June 1945 was moved to Transport Command, which operates transport flights to France, Italy, Greece or Norway. When this activity lost in the accidents 4 flyer.

18. December 1946 was disbanded.
