1940

The third Polish fighter squadron in Great Britain officially formed 28. August 1940 when the RAF issued an order to its formation. The staff is recruited mainly from members of the pre-war fighter squadrons III/3 of Poznan and III/4 of Torun and her character was a combination of the motives of their emblems. 4. September has arrived the first group of pilots and mechanics on the base Church Fenton (this day was celebrated as the day of formation of the squadron), and soon began with intensive training. After moving to the base Ternhill the unit was 8. November declared of political prisoners and has taken its first operational years. Its tasks until the end of the year consisted mainly of patrol flights over the Liverpool and practicing night flying.

Up to the end of march, the squadron continued its previous duties, after the departure of S/Ldr Gillama 3. march already under the Polish command. The last day of march came the order to move to the base of the Northolt. For bad weather, the transfer was held up for four days, whereupon it became part of the 1. the Polish fighter wings and at the same time, gradually began to přezbrojoval to a more powerful version of the Hurricane. 16. 1942

The first two months of flying because of the weather is limited to training and patrol flights. From march the squadron began to engage sorties over France. In early may the whole 2. the Polish fighter wing moved into the north of England and once again came back only to exercise and patrol.
Peace of mind the pilots ended in June, when the rotation of the wing moved to the base Northolt and become again a part of the combat nejexponovanějšího 1. the Polish fighter wings. Until the end of the year were all pilots maximum utilization in events of the type the Circus, Ramrod and Rhubarb. Very successfully took part in operation "Jubilee" (the away team at Dieppe) and as a pearl among the many almost suicidal missions the September event from 10. October, when the squadron patrolled over the stadium at Wembley during the football match England - Scotland (the result of 0:0, 75 000 spectators).
This year, however, in addition to achievements (e.g., P/H. Pietrzak and F/O From. Langhamer recorded 31. December jubilee 500. and 501. the victory of the Polish air force in Great Britain) brought heavy losses including the lives of the two commanders.

1945 - 1947
