Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The original Church of the Nativity was founded in 1381 by the endowment of the town council in the northern suburbs of the town. It is worth noting that the foundation charter was approved by the Vicar General of Pomuk, now known as St. John of Nepomuk, after it was entered into the erection books of the Prague Archbishopric. It must be said that this Gothic church was located a few metres north of the present Baroque building. When the town was hit by a great fire in 1515, the church was spared. Sigismund Berka of Dubá then brought the Lutheran precentor Zacharias Pullmann here in 1566. The fact that the sanctuary became Lutheran under Berka meant the removal of statues and paintings. The Sloup branch of the Berks from Dubá then had a tomb built next to this church, which was evidently used for their final resting place by Jetřich Jiří Berka, Petr Berka in Nový Stránov and his wife Sibyla Berka, née Eberstein. In 1580 a new organ was purchased and in 1598 a school was built at the church. In 1608 the church received a new bell and the cemetery around the church was enclosed by a wall. A year later the Lutherans gained control of all the churches in Česká Lípa and remained so until the forced recatholization in 1623. In 1630 the Marian Brotherhood was established at the church. Surprisingly, the most important influence on the existence of the church was the plague epidemic of 1680, which claimed at least 520 lives. In thanksgiving for the rescue, P. Michael Adalbert Tschakert donated a nearby plot of land for the construction of a new church. After sufficient funds were raised, Jan Wilhelm Kounic proceeded with the construction, the first work being that of demolition on the existing church in 1706. However, the demolition was not complete, and for the next century or so the Berk tomb, which became part of the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, stood.

The actual construction of the new church was completed in 1710, at a cost of 12,000 zlotys. We do not know who was the author of the design. However, the consecration of the church by Gottfried Herbst did not take place until 29 August 1714. In 1755 the choir was built.

The last remnants of the old church finally disappeared (apart from any preserved foundations underground) during the first quarter of the 19th century. In 1811, the tomb was opened and the remains were buried in a grave in the churchyard. The following year the tomb was demolished and its stones were used to build the cemetery wall. The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre was finally destroyed between 1819 and 1822.

It was not until 1873 that a tower was added to the south-east side of the church, the very bell, designed by Karl Bellmann in 1826, which was hung on it, was originally planned for the rebuilt church of St Peter and St Paul. This bell fell victim to the First World War, the remaining 3 to the Second.

The churchyard around the church was in use until 1885, but today it is a park, but in this park it is possible to find individual gravestones or parts of gravestones, either free-standing or set into the wall of the former churchyard.

The church was built as a single-nave, rectangular hall building with a gabled roof. The sides of the semicircular presbytery are then extended in the shape of a cross. Here are the sacristies and above them the men's oratories. The southern part is then elevated by a two-storey prismatic tower, which has a high gabled roof. The nave vault as well as the chancel are vaulted with a longitudinal vault with triangular sections located above the windows on the upper level. The different parts are separated by a coved cornice supported by pilasters with simplified cornice capitals. The bays are separated by transverse bands.

the Church of st. Peter and Paul (extinct)

Some researchers believe, that the church may have already been incurred in the 13. century, however, the first historically documented during the ceremony of consecration, which participated in alone the Czech king John of Luxembourg. The church subsequently was several times přestavevován and suffered by several fires in the end was after the fire of 1820 demolished. Sources capturing the church are not too loyal in addition to illustrate the construction of the gothic, albeit with a few differences (even significant). The only extant plan however, the plan captures the church in a rather different form (e.g. shape and dimensions of the presbytery), very speculative is the steeple of the church. It was the only church, which was located inside the city walls, all the others were already behind them.

správnější forma by byla klášter augustiniánů, má to i tu výhodu, že už z názvu je poznat, zda jde o mužskou či ženskou větev řádu. A když už, tak klášter řádu sv. Augustina (nikoliv Augustiana)
