historie / History
Peruť vznikla 1. března 1941 na základně Driffield jako stíhací. Po ukončení výcviku se jednotka zapojla do non-stop ofenzívy nad kontinentem, převážně doprovázela bombardéry. V roce 1944 se stává součástí 2nd TAF. V jeho řadách se podílela na přípravách a následné invazi do Francie a převážně poskytovala přímou podporu postupujícím spojeneckým vojskům. V únoru 1945 začala s přezbrojením na stíhací bombardéry Tempest, ale v dubnu 1945 bylo přeškolování zastaveno a opět na Spitfirech se vrátila do Evropy, kde ukončila svou válečnou pouť. Poté se stala součástí britských okupačních sil v Německu a 26. srpna 1945 byla rozpuštěna na základně Drope.
Během 2. světové války byla jednotka součásti RNZAF (novozélandské letectvo), podléhala ale velení a operační kontrole RAF (britské Královské letectvo) pod označením No. 485 Squadron RAF.
