FIM-43C Redeye

The final version of the Redeye Block III was developed in 1965/1966 by General Dynamics under the designation XM41E2, adopted into service as XFIM-43C. The missile had the gas-cooled IR sensor from the XFIM-43B version, and was equipped with the new XM115 rocket motor, XM222 warhead, and XM814 igniter. The missile used the XM171 ascension system with the new XM62 sight and upgraded electronics compatible with the new missile.

The missile could manoeuvre with a 3g accuracy, according to US Army data it had a probability of 0.4 of destroying the target.

The XFEM-43C rocket, equipped with telemetry equipment to transmit and record measured data, was used to test and determine the performance of the new rocket.

The missile was mass-produced in May 1967 and has been in operational use by the US Army and Marine Corps since March 1968.

The rocket with the launcher had the aggregate designation M41 in the late 1960s; during the 1970s the letter X ceased to be used in the designation.

The modernization of the FIM-43C produced the FIM-43D version in 1969.

The FIM-43C/D was phased out of the US Army and Marine Corps starting in 1982 (complete retirement and disposal (demilitarization) completed in 1995).
