Prapor vznikl nově 1. října 1950. Nacházel se v Horní Suché, podléhal Velitelství ženijního vojska Ministerstva národní obrany [1950-19] a od ledna 1951 Stavební a ubytovací správě Ministerstva národní obrany [1950-19].


Prapor užíval od svého vzniku krycího označení VÚ 5123.


Prapor byl 15. června 1951 přejmenován na III. pomocný technický prapor [1951-1953].

The first commander of the battalion was major Leopold Dugas. The cover number of a body was WOO 1546. The battalion was stationed in the Upper Dry, while the men were accommodated in the camps of the Peace and President Gottwald.

The battalion consisted of seven working companies and one company replacement. Members of the battalions worked in favor of the down Peace and Barbora in Karviná and the mine President Gottwald in the Upper Dry.
