MiG-35 (Issue 9-61)
MiG-35D (out of 9-67)

Planned single- and two-seat variants with new avionics, including radar with active phased array antenna and possibly thrust vectoring engines. It was planned to be introduced at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. The fuselage (including the unified nose section tested on the prototype MiG-29M2 number 154) has a number of features identical to the MiG-29K (9-41) and MiG-29KUB (9-47) of the Indian Navy.

The MiG-35 was developed to win the Indian Air Force's order for 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA). However, the Russian aircraft lost out and the French Rafale won the contract in January 2012. One each of a single-seat MiG-35 (9-61, "961") and a two-seat MiG-35D (9-67, "967") were produced for the flight tests conducted as part of the tender.

The MiG-29M (9-41S) and MiG-29M2 (9-47S) aircraft represent a cheaper alternative to the MiG-35 and MiG-35D. Both were also based on the exportable airborne multirole combat aircraft MiG-29K (9-41) and MiG-29KUB (9-47).

In April 2015, Egypt ordered the delivery of 46 (some sources say 52 aircraft) MiG-29M (Izdelije 9-41SM) and MiG-29M2 (Izdelije 9-47SM) aircraft, which were to be delivered by the end of 2020. The first aircraft arrived from Egypt in 2017 and on 03.11.2018 one MiG-29M was destroyed in an accident. The pilot successfully ejected. Another accident occurred on 05.12.2019. Also in this case, the pilot successfully ejected.
