Infantry captain in reserve Rudolf Jasiok

* February 8, 1919 in Dolní Suchá - today part of Havířov
+ 30 Sep 1944 Zyndranowa, Poland

Youth

Jasioka's father Rudolf worked as a miner in Orlová. In 1931, together with his wife, daughter Hilda and son Rudolf, he went to work in the USSR after an offer from recruiters in Kharkov. They settled in the town of Parizhskaya Komuna (now Perevalsk) in the Luhansk region, where his father continued to work as a miner and his mother as a kindergarten teacher. The family was forced to take Soviet citizenship in 1938.

Rudolf first attended a ten-year school, then graduated from a four-year chemical industrial school in Rostov-on-Don. After the invasion of the USSR, he was interned because of his origins and worked in a woodworking factory in the town of Molotov.

In the army

He joined the Czechoslovak military unit in Buzuluk as one of the first (ev. no. 100) on 12 February 1942. On 17 June 1942, he was transferred to the liaison company of the 1st Czechoslovak Field Battalion, where he was promoted to lance corporal on 14 December 1942. In March 1943, he took part in the Battle of Sokolov and was promoted to sergeant on 29 May 1943.

In Novochopersk, where the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Brigade was being formed, he attended a school for reserve officers and after its completion he was reassigned to the brigade's emerging tank battalion (3 July 1943). He graduated from tank training in Tambov and gained the tank commander specialisation with excellent results. After returning from the course, he takes command of a T-34/76 tank with the battle name BACHMAČ in the company of Lt. Josef Buršík and on 22 October 1943 he was promoted to sergeant.

Tankist in combat

In the first tank battalion battle for Kiev, Rt. Jasiok and his crew did well. They destroyed one tank, 3 anti-tank guns, 4 machine gun nests and two dozen German soldiers. He was awarded the Czechoslovak War Cross 1939 and the Soviet Order of the Red Star for the Battle of Kiev.

In the winter of 1943/44 he took part in all the battles at Vasilkov, for the village of Ruda and Bila Cerkev. In the Battle of Ruda, Jasioka's crew knocked out two anti-tank guns and their crew, a mortar and several dozen soldiers. On December 30, 1943, he destroyed a German self-propelled gun. On the last day of 1943 he destroyed another self-propelled gun, a machine gun nest and one object of field fortification near Bílá Cerkva.

For these achievements, he was awarded the Soviet Order of Patriotic War II (used to be awarded to those who destroyed two or more enemy tanks in combat), another Czechoslovak War Cross, and was promoted to second lieutenant on 2 January 1944.

In the battles of 17-23 January 1944, his crew disabled 2 more tanks. On 24 January 1944, while supporting the engineers on the destruction of the Ostrožany Bridge, he lost his tank BACHMAČ. During manoeuvres on the river bank it fell on the frozen river up to the turret and despite all efforts to extricate it, this failed and the tank was lost.

On the formation of the 1st Czechoslovak Tank Regiment on 1 April 1944 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Tank Company of the 1st Tank Battalion.

On 25 August 1944 he married Viktoria Koremna.

Carpatho-Dukla Operation

In the Carpatho-Dukla Operation, he serves as a tank company commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Czechoslovak Tank Brigade and participates in the battles for the bloody Kopot 534, the capture of the town of Dukla and the trigonometer 694 Hyrowa hora.

After being severely wounded, npor. R. Tesarik on 22 September, he briefly commands the 3rd Tank Battalion. On 29 September he again commanded the company. During the first attempt to cross the Czechoslovak border near Zyndranowa on 30 September, only Jasioka's tank reaches almost the top of the border height 578 and destroys the German observation post.

Shortly afterwards, the tank takes its first hit from a self-propelled gun. The vehicle's commander (in combat he only served as a gunner), Cpl. Vasil Kobirja gave the order to abandon the tank, but Lt. Jasiok gave the order to continue the fight and return fire.

Soon the tank took a second hit to the right side of the turret, killing Lt. Rudolf Jasiok, driver des. Viktor Agapchuk and charger des. Michal Alexey. The machine managed to leave only slightly wounded crews. Kobirj and the lower gunner, priv. Antonin Hejduk, who, however, fell shortly afterwards outside the tank.

Jasiok's body was not recovered from the wreckage until 8 October and two days later he was buried together with the other fallen from Zyndranowa in the military cemetery at Dukla Pass.

The tank T-34/85, serial number 4050112, was repaired by technicians and was finally lost in a mine explosion on 30 October in Koreyovce, killing 3 more tankers.

After the battle at Zyndranowa, Rudolf Jasiok was promoted to lieutenant on 1 October, and on 1 January 1946 he was promoted to the rank of infantry lieutenant in memoriam and on 1 February 1946 to infantry captain in reserve.
