On 13 November 1983, an unknown structure was discovered in the waters of Starnberger See (Starnberger See). The wreckage of the old aircraft was later identified as the fuselage of the Arado Ar 66 D (w.n. 1258).
Apparently, the aircraft was shot down by an American fighter on 9 April 1945 during a training flight in the vicinity of Zwickau (what happened to the crew is not mentioned by the source).
The wreckage of the aircraft is located in the Deutsches Museum München (Munich - Germany).
