Culemeyer Trailer / Culemeyer-Straßenroller
RoRo trailer inside out

The company Culemeyer was founded in 1931 by Johan Culemeyer, driven by the idea of producing heavy sleepers for transporting rail vehicles on the road. Over time, several designs were developed for this purpose, characterised by their high load capacity and the possibility of adjusting the chassis to the required load.
During the Second World War, in addition to the main user, the Deutsche Reischbahn, these sleepers were also used by the Wehrmacht and other branches of the German armed forces. Both civilian Kaelble vehicles of the ZK 3 and K631 ZR/53 types were used for hauling, as well as the Sd.Kfz.9 FAMO heavy wheeled tractors used by the Wehrmacht.

The smaller of the two main types of the time, was the sleeper with payloads given at 40, later 50 tons. It consisted of a pair of separate eight-wheel bogies. All wheels of the bogies were steerable, to facilitate the passage of the bogie set and the two-axle wagon over roads or city streets.
Photographs are known of this type being used to transport the heavy Gerat 040 - 60cm(KARL) mortar.

The larger one, with a load capacity given at 80 tons, was again a pair, this time of twelve-wheel bogies. All wheels of the bogies were steerable in this case as well, to facilitate the passage of the bogie set and the four-axle wagon.
Photographs are known of this type being used to transport armament intended for the Atlantic Wall, or heavy fighting vehicles such as the Sd.Kfz.186 Jagtiger.

The individual chassis, both two and three axle, could be freely arranged one behind the other or used in groups connected by a supporting structure.

P.S.I: There are also known photographs of such a set of 48 wheels, towed by a TATRA T84 tractor.
P.S.II: In the Czechoslovakia these sleepers were used for transporting technological units to the Vltava cascade.

Diskuse

The Culemeyer company mentioned above was probably only a trading company, not a manufacturing one, and the sleepers for it were produced by Wagenfabrik Kässbohrer and Gothaer Waggonfabrik, see J.Tintěra's post: forum.valka.cz
So much for the record.Confused
