The main difference between the S-300PM and previous tristovkas is the use of the new 48N6 missile (and its export variant 48N6E) developed by the NPO "Fakel" design bureau. The missile is capable of destroying air targets flying at speeds of up to 6,450 km/h, at a range of 150 km. It is capable of destroying low-flying cruise missiles at altitudes of 6-100 m at a range of 35-38 km. The system includes a sophisticated antenna system of target irradiation radar and missile guidance. The system is available in a mobile variant on MAZ chassis, as well as in a variant on tractor-trailers pulled by KrAZ tractors (the different parts are compatible with each other). The S-300PM is part of Moscow's S-50 air defense system.
