Vyznamenání mělo dva nositele. Řád č. 1 obdržel president republiky Klement Gottwald (ze zákona byl nositelem všech československých řádů), č. 2 dostal Rudolf Slánský k životnímu jubileu krátce před svým zatčením. Právě kvůli Slánskému nebyl řád již udělován a později došlo k jeho celkovému přepracování. Jediný naprosto hodnověrný originál řádu s číslem 1 na reversu se nachází ve fondu osobních vyznamenání K. Gottwalda v depozitu Musea dělnického hnutí v Praze. Řád byl vystaven na konci devadesátých let na výstavě "Vyznamenání presidentů republiky" na Pražském hradě.
