The hub was created in 1930-34. I hate to admit it, but it has better ballistic properties than the 50 BMG cartridge. The photo is of a school cartridge made in Novosibirsk, Russia (formerly USSR), on the right is the 7.92 x 57 cartridge.
It is used, for example, in DŠK / DŠKM, NSV / NSVT machine guns, Afanasjev, UB, ŠVAK a 9A624
