Měřička, Václav August

On our faleristických website we deal with the issue of the orders and medals. We often discovered, but the goal is the same - to understand that the orders and decorations (medals) lasts from the time of ancient Rome to the present day. I think personally, that for the younger colleagues will not be from things is somewhat of a return to the physique that us most of these articles is accompanied, therefore, to faleristovi, which is known not only in Europe but throughout the world, and even, for example, in remote Japan or the US and Canada. I was asking about the processing of the medallion of this extraordinary man which was:

Václav August MĚŘIČKA

Therefore, I dare, and do it with courtesy, to publish the reflection of our front faleristy Dr. Iva kolacny, a precious man, which was published in the journal SIGNUM BRNO in December 2001.

In memoriam Václav And. MĚŘIČKY:

Day 15. June 2001 at the age of 85 years, left a number of our and the world faleristiky Václav August Měřička - the man to whom the science of systems and vyznamenáních filled more than half of its high of a fruitful life - a man who his činorodostí invention boosted the czechoslovak faleristiku on the world level.

To faleristiky came In. And. Měřička in the mid-fifties, at a time when the memory experts still lived those who stood in the interwar period in its conception - Karel prince of Schwarzenberg, Chris Pilz and more. Václav Měřička, therefore, was between the faleristy in a very difficult and nezáviděnihodné time, marked by extreme political odds against this "bourgeois and aristocratic" hobby. But it has an unexpected and Václav Měřičkovi managed to this a helping of science historic not only brighten, but give it an optimistic perspective for the next years. In the framework of the Numismatic society of the czechoslovak and Czech. society of friends of small sculptures created thanks to his charisma and excellent publicistickým skills of a community of enthusiasts for honours. Thanks to his articles, lectures, besedám, souborným publications and later also extensive reprezentačním monografiím, changed to the czechoslovak medals from the mere collecting, in a relatively busy penchant for standing on the fundamentech amateur, but a scientifically oriented research and knowledge.

Verba movent, exempla trahunt - Václav Měřička its conception faleristiky inspired in the 60-80. years a number of especially younger collectors to follow. It was he who gave them by his example (himself a former officer in the army and later a government official) hope that faleristiku, like heraldry or numismatiku can grow well without the higher vocational education on a truly professional level, only if one is properly ignited for the thing, it is well equipped with the language skills and willing to pursue your hobby all the time He handled the spoken and written next to the mother tongue is also German, French, English, Russian and Spanish. A solid knowledge of Latin and partly Greek, he helped to bridge for a number of its součastníků neschůdné language barrier. His phenomenal memory for names and dates along with a deep knowledge of history, especially military, were highly appreciated even in the ranks of professional experts.

As a person moving to employment in the higher social circles, he very often makes this easy access to the not quite normal information, but in particular to the important material documentary materials. They then could bravurním way to use for publication purposes. His every article in the professional journal, every newspaper the post (those were significantly less) meant for us, then young and budding faleristy, inspiration. A qualitative change in the Měřičkově publishing activities, however, meant at the beginning of the 70. years epic faleristické monograph written custom our and foreign exclusive publishing (Artia, Dausien, Hamlyn, Schroll). In particular, the book written by custom publishing And. Schroll in Vienna, relating to the order and decorations of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy has become the bible of the majority of our faleristů, because since the time of Michetschlägerových not in the world of this faleristická area thoroughly processed.

Next to the mentioned monograph, the de facto foreign language textbooks faleristiky, published Václav Měřička in the context of the ČSPDP in Prague and in Hradec Králové a number of smaller, eea, however, extremely necessary publications, devoted mainly our faleristické history, but also the history of other countries or to an important historical period. It is these booklets and books, thanks to their affordable price and the mother tongue of the marked by despite its nobility, often to a list hutností, were wide faleristickou the public highly valued. Total publications by Václav Měřičky includes over 600 papers and articles, including the already mentioned extensive monograph. It is logical that, with such a rich publishing activity necessarily had to commit some inaccuracies or mistakes, which cannot, however, far from devalue the enormous contribution of his work.

How much more successful and productive was Měřičkův life professional and faleristický about it harder by has been affected by in the life of a private. After the premature death of a single child - a son, Václav - prevent it in the path for eternity and his wife Elsa, née baroness Špačková of Starburgu. Václav Měřičkovi, as the deeply to the faithful evangelíkovi, however, remained the bulwark of faith in God, in his justice and hope of this faith based. At that time its wonderful and money difficult to ohodnotitelnou faleristickou and numismatickou collection, including the precious library, which the whole life built up and expanded, formally already took over the National museum with the promise in the form of exhibitions gradually to show off to the public.

In the last years and months of your life already Václav Měřička, lived as of old, sick and lonely man in his prague apartment in Dejvice. Already only very few actual friends you have attended and selflessly he helped on his hořkém the end. According to his wishes was Václav Měřička after the death of the transported to his birthplace in the Czech Skalice, where it was deposited in the family tomb to the last rest. The famous chapter of the czechoslovak and the Czech-moravian faleristiky bearing the name of Václav Měřičky so definitively concluded, remained, however, a wonderful reference and an extremely inspiring challenge to all his followers.
