He was born 16.01.1921 in Nixdorf, Czechoslovakia as the son of a galvanizer. 1938 joined the SS. 1939-41 infantry fighting in Poland, France and Russia in the ranks of 12./Rgt. Deutschland, last as Uscha. (1.10.1941). For a long time without front-line deployment, instead in January 1943 a teacher in the Tiger course for the last time with the rank of Oscha. Followed by an officer course, from 1.9.1943 by SS weapons lieutenant assigned to the Schw.SS-Pz.Abt. 503. At the end of 1944 finally in combat deployment. He destroyed enemy tanks, was himself hit and in quick succession was awarded both the Iron Cross and the Silver Badge for wounds. Deployed as commander of the Königstiger in the spring of 1945, he scored successes against tanks and anti-tank guns at Arnswalde and Stargard. As a platoon leader, he was wounded when his tank was hit, yet managed to break out of the encirclement at Kolberg. Re-deployed to the front at the Oder and Berlin in the cauldron around the capital, he took command of the 3rd Company and continued to record more tank hits, especially in the ZOO, Kurfürstendamm and Hohenzollerdamm areas. On 2.5.1945, after a tank hit him again, he was severely wounded, severe burns on his face, upper body and hands resulted in long healing and various plastic surgeries in artificial sleep. 1947 released from Soviet POW camp. After the war, he supported himself as a clerk.
