1st Ski Division (1. SkiJäD) - 14.4.1945 stationed in the area of Upper Silesia, north of the Opava River, on the left (western) flank of XI Corps. East of it was stationed the 97th Mountain Division. On 15.4.1945, units of the 60th Soviet Army, namely the 30th Panzer Corps and units of the 38th Soviet Army, attacked its positions on the positions of the neighboring 97th Mountain Division. The unit was able to hold its defensive positions thanks to the fact that the main attack of the Soviet troops and the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Tank Brigade was directed between Opava and Ostrava. On 22 April 1945, the division's units were deployed in the northeastern part of the town of Opava. By 25.4.1945 the division had to retreat to positions southwest of the city and thus stood on the western flank of the Soviet advance, which began on 27.4.1945 and resulted in a total retreat of the German forces from Ostrava.
