The 44th Reichs-Grenadier-Division Hoch- und Deutschmeister was formed in 03/1943 as a successor in January in Stalingrad destroyed 44th Infantry Division. Subsequently, she moved to Italy in December, where she remained until the end of 1944, when she was sent to Hungary. She ended the war in Austria.
