Prapor vznikl nově 1. října 1950. Nacházel se v Kladně-Libušíně, podléhal Velitelství ženijního vojska Ministerstva národní obrany [1950-19], od ledna 1951 Stavební a ubytovací správě Ministerstva národní obrany [1950-19] a od ledna 1952 Velitelství vojenských pracovních jednotek [1952-1954].


Prapor užíval od svého vzniku krycího označení VÚ 5447.


Prapor byl 1. května 1954 přejmenován na 57. technický prapor [1954-1956].
