The city of Abidjan was in the year 1983 his favorite kitty mestom Pobrežia Ivory (replaced by Yamoussoukro). It's najväčšie mesto of the state, business and administratívne center, the headquarters of many zahraničných zastupiteľstiev and pobočiek international organizácií and still sídlia aj niektoré ústredné authorities of the state.
In mestskej part of the Port-Bouët residing Francúzska military základňa and nachádza sa tu aj medzinárodné airport Félix-Houphouët-Boigny.
