Replacement for PLRK 2K12 Kub - Retia demonstrator
Brief history
The announced reform of the armed forces began in 2002. The plan for ground-based air defence (hereafter PVO) envisaged the modernisation of the 2K12 KUB sets. In 2006, the company Retia, a.s. from Pardubice signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence (hereinafter MOČR) for the re-tuning of the 1S91 SURN control and guidance radar in accordance with the European frequency table. This rebuild is known as SURN CZ and essentially involved a comprehensive generational change of the radar electronics and a reduction of one operator. The upgraded vehicles were used to arm all batteries of the 25th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade. The upgraded KUB system has since successfully participated in many NATO international exercises and ACR missile exercises, where it has demonstrated a significant increase in combat value, especially in REB conditions.
In 2009, the MoD commissioned a defence research project to consider the technical and financial feasibility of replacing the original aging 3M9M3 missiles with missiles with sufficient service life. The project was led by Retia, which is actively cooperating with the Department of Air Defence of the University of Defence Brno, VA in Vyškov and other experts of the Czech Army. The first step was to determine the criteria and selection of a suitable anti-aircraft missile (AAM). The selection of the SAM was followed by the development and production of a technological demonstrator of the launcher (hereinafter referred to as the OZ, and the upgraded SURN CZM radar) to verify the feasibility of the replacement. Retia is working with MBDA, whose Aspide 2000 missile was selected as a suitable replacement for the 3M9M3. By the end of 2011, all technical and financial details of the proposed replacement will be determined and documented.
The OZ technology demonstrator with Aspide 2000 missiles was shown to the public for the first time at IDET 2011.
