Short submachine gun BEAUTY
At the end of the seventies, VVÚ ZVS Brno was given the annual task Beauty. In 1980, Jiří Čermák was given the task of solving this task in the set of tasks "New systems of small-caliber automatic weapons".
Čermák quickly designed it for ammunition 7.62mm vz. 43 and the first functional submachine gun was made in the fall of 1980 with verification of its functionality. 7.62 mm Beauty was designed for commanders, paratroopers, members of special forces and those for whom a long submachine gun would complicate other activities (tankers, etc.). For easier supply of ammunition was designed for the already established charge 7.62mm vz.43. It was a weapon with a very short barrel 110mm with a polygonal bore, with a locked breech (locking wedge) and powered by dust gases removed from the barrel. Due to the very short barrel had to be equipped with an effective flame damper to reduce the flame spread. The magazine was placed in the usual way under the holster and a folding backrest was attached to the back of the holster. The firing of the weapon occurred from the front position of the breech - before the shot was a charge in the chamber. The trigger mechanism was designed for shooting single shots and doses, the drum mechanism was a hammer with a rotating hammer.
After 1980, this task was marked SRÁZ/A 06. In the first two years, work continued for the established charge 7.62 mm vz. 43 gradually, however, moved to 5.45mm. It was this reconstruction that created 5.45mm short submachine gun BEAUTY. Conceptually, it was identical to the short submachine gun at 7.62 vz. 43. In addition to caliber, it differed in modified dust collection, conical flame arrestor and some TTUs. At the end of 1983, the research work was completed, but this concept was not used for the future set of LADA weapons, because it was a solution developed especially for short submachine guns, which could not be used in LADA.

J. Čoupek, M. Fišer, J. Jakubec and B. Novotný also worked on Kráš together with Jiří Čermák.

Development versions of the weapon, which was tested for the use of the smallest possible length, especially when using standard ammunition 7,62x39 vz.43, used in submachine gun vz.58. It was tested what the smallest length of barrel can be used to maintain a certain accuracy. The intention was to create a short weapon that would be more powerful than the Scorpion submachine gun ( Scorpio vz.61).
Several prototypes were created. During the tests, the limit value of the length of mainly 110 mm was reached, when, however, problems with the blast and high noise became apparent.

I would like to start here: I believe that the BEAUTY project was designed for a Soviet charge of 5.45 (Sa 80) and later for a 5.56 NATO charge (Sa 83).

Michal Zdobinský-Unknown Czechoslovak weapons ATOM/ATM No.?/19 ??
Other calibers were also tested, but the weapon was primarily designed at the time of the project, which used ammunition, which was standardly introduced into our armament. In the above source are two photographs of one of the later versions. The low-quality photo shows the designation Sa 81 or rather Sa 83 (?) And next to it the four-digit number 72 ?? - is illegible. So the BEAUTY project took several forms. I welcome more info.

My information comes from only one source (which is not correct), but I think the source is relevant - Prof. L. Popelínský and his book "Czechoslovak automatic weapons & their creators", Our Army, I do not remember the year, but I count five years back.
The knowledge gained in solving this task was used in the implementation of the LADA project.

[quote = "Fox-High."] I would like to start here: I believe that the BEAUTY project was designed for a Soviet charge of 5.45 (Sa 80) and later for a 5.56 NATO charge (Sa 83). You don't have to argue because you're both right. There were two variants of Beauty - the first for a 7.62x39 charge, the second for a 5.45x39 charge. Three prototypes were created (I suspect) from both variants, which were still in the Brno Prototypes collection in 1992. I don't know where they ended up, maybe in the VHÚ collections.

I admit my mistake - I flipped through my new book, Col. Šády, where I actually found that the Sa 80 was chambered for charge vz. 43 and Sa 83 for the Soviet 5.45 round vz. 74.

The body of the weapon was made of aluminum alloy. An interesting feature is the placement of the tank under the barrel itself. The cartridges were pulled out of the magazine by moving the bolt backwards, then it was lifted in front of the cartridge chamber and inserted into it (similar principle as the machine gun PK, where the cartridge is pulled out of the belt backwards). The front part of the weapon is formed by a massive integrated flame damper in the shape of a cone - following the barrel smoothly. At the same time, it is equipped with a large external thread for the attachment for firing practice rounds, or for other (?) Equipment not specified (damper?). This thread can also be seen in the photos. A few years ago, the idea arose to produce this weapon in a more modern (plastic) version, but I have no further info on this project.
