Ota Even. called Noble was born before the year 866 as the second son Liudolfa, the founder of the saxon dynasty Liudolfovců, and his wife's Ody. After the death of his brother Brunona in the year 880 he joined after his brother to the saxon ducal throne. Ota maintained good relations with východofranským king Louis III.
