Major Viktor Ráža, a war veteran, died at the blessed age of 96 in the Olomouc military hospital. Born a Volhynian Czech, he became a member of the Blaník underground organization during the war. In the spring of 1944, at the age of 18, he joined the Czechoslovak army in the East. He took a course as a machine gunner and obtained a military driving licence. He participated in the transport of weapons of fallen and wounded soldiers to the rear, where he also carried out repairs as a gunsmith. He started his active career in Přemyšl, then he reached the Czech Republic via Krosno and Slovakia. After the war he settled there with his family.
