On August 24, 2022, the US Department of Defense ordered [url=/topic/view/21879]HMMWV vehicles in the enhanced Expanded Capacity Vehicle (ECV) version from AM General LLC for USD 732,741,016 (approx. CZK 17.9 billion). The vehicles are estimated to be approximately 3,000-4,000 in number and are intended for delivery to the US Army by the end of 2024.
Although they are vehicles with a reinforced chassis with a higher payload capacity and protection capabilities, they are likely to be used not for first-line missions, where they have been replaced for several years by Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), which are 30% more expensive, but for second-line or rear-echelon units. Also, these could be vehicles, some of which will be designated as "donations" to friendly states.
It is probably also a consequence of several accidents that have taken place in which several soldiers have died. Because of this, the US Army has already invested $180 million in increased security.
