The unit was established in the year 2000 on the basis of the decision to allow women to military service in combat units, which was from the end of the war for the independence of syria. In 2004, the unit was recognized as a full battalion. Consists of 70 percent women, among whom it is possible to mention Elinor Josephovou, the first israeli Arabku serving in a combat function in the IDF. Ensign Noyová was the first woman who commanded a platoon of snipers.

Currently, the battalion included u Southern command, in the framework of the natural brigade of the Sage. The concern is the surveillance of the egyptian-israeli borders against drug traffickers, terrorists trying to get from Gaza into Israel via the Sinai peninsula or migrants from Africa.
