Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, by his own name Joseph Alois Ratzinger, died at the age of 95 at 9:34 a.m. on December 31, 2022, at the Mater Ecclesiae monastery in the Vatican. He was head of the Catholic Church from 2005 to 2013.
Joseph Ratzinger became a docent and priest at 24, a professor at 31, Bishop of Munich at 49, and a cardinal at 50. He was fluent in six languages. He taught at the universities of Tübingen and Regensburg, among others. He later served as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. On 19 April 2005, he was elected as the 265th Pope after the late John Paul II. He abdicated his office on 28.02.2013.
