Medal in memory of October 1, 1938
(Medal of the Meeting on 1 October 1938)

The medal in memory of October 1, 1938 was established by a decree of the leader and the Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler on October 18, 1938. It was awarded to all persons who in the territory of the Sudetenland or Germany deserved their annexation to the empire. It could be received by members of the armed forces, police, SS and paramilitary units, as well as members of the NSDAP, SdP and officials who were in active service at the time of joining.
The author of the design was Professor Richard Klein in Munich.

Shape:
Bronze medal round with a diameter of 32 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. The medal is not marked by the manufacturer.

Obverse:
The obverse of the medal, lined with a simple raised bar, shows two figures protruding from the right side (heraldically) on a step & # 328; carrying an imperial eagle with outstretched wings and a wreath with a swastika in its joints. The larger of the figures holding an imperial swastika battalion in his left hand leads the smaller figure with the rest of the broken chain on his right hand.

Reverse:
At the edge of the medal lined with a simple raised bar is a copy of EIN VOLK/EIN REICH/EIN F & amp; Uuml; HRER (One Nation/One Empire/One Leader), the individual parts of the copy are separated by swastikas. In the center of the medal is then a three-line copy 1./OKTOBER/1938 (October 1, 1938).

Hinge:

Narrow upright tab with a hanging ring with a diameter of 11 mm.

Ribbon:

Ribbon about 26 mm wide in Sudetenland colors. On a black background there is one 9 mm wide black center and 1 mm wide marginal white stripes.
In the case of awarding the medal in the case, the ribbon was sewn and in the back part provided with a sewn-on horizontal fastening needle.

Case:
Wooden case of elongated shape, brown color. The outer side of the lid is equipped with a gold imperial eagle with outstretched wings and a swastika in the joints. The inside of the lid is lined with white satin, the space for the medal is lined with purple velvet. In some cases, the medal was handed over only in a simple paper bag with the printed name of the decoration and the manufacturer's mark.

Along with the medal, one of several variants of the award decree was handed over.

Wearing style:
In the form of a small ribbon above the left pocket of the uniform (Kleine Feldspange) or for ceremonial occasions the entire medal fastened to the bar also above the left pocket (Große Feldspange). For wearing on civilian clothes, there were 9mm miniatures on a needle or 16mm designed to be attached to a chain.

Buckle "Prague Castle"
(Spange Prager Burg ")

By a decree of May 1, 1939, Adolf Hitler decided that the medal for October 1 will also be awarded to those persons who contributed to the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Those persons who have already been decorated with the medal were awarded the so-called "Prague Castle" buckle.

A rectangular clip measuring 31 x 11 mm was struck from bronze. The front side, lined with a relatively wide raised bar, shows the relief of Prague Castle, the reverse side is equipped with two triangular thorns, which fastened the buckle to the ribbon of the medal.

A total of 1,162,617 medals and 134,563 buckles were awarded.
