The medal was minted of silver with a diameter of 36 mm. It was the last of four medals associated with the napoleonic wars. Awarded to the surviving veterans of the various campaigns in India and Burma in the years 1803-1826. It was released a total of 21 labels with the names of the battles. The largest number of labels for one decorated was 7. Total was granted 4 500 medals.
