Gold, silver and bronze medals for bravery from 1795
Golden Copper Medal 1795 (Silver and Bronze)
The medal was founded by the Archbishop and Elector of Mainz Bedřich Karel Josef of Erthal, Prince Archbishop of Worm as early as the month of February 1795.
The medal was established on the occasion of the liberation or, more precisely, the reconquest of the country. It was founded in three stages and was designated as the highest honor and award of soldiers (non-commissioned officers to the rank of feldwebl) for their bravery, courage and personal merit in the war of liberation.
- gold medal, diameter 38 mm weighing 6 ducats (20.5 g)
- silver medal, diameter 38 mm with a weight of 15 g
- bronze medal, diameter 38 mm
Medal description:
Obverse:
On the front there is an impressive right-facing portrait of the Archbishop of Mainz in an ermine cloak, with a baroque wig and a neck cross (PECTORALE).
Around the portrait is the inscription:
FRID. SCRAP. JOS. ERZB. V. KVRF. Z. MAINZ. F. B. Z. W.
At the bottom of the medal is the signature of the medalist:
I. LINDENSCHMIT
Reverse:
The back is symbolic. In the clouds, the goddess VICTORY floats with a laurel wreath in her right hand, pointing to the spoils of war, war trophies. Under the laurel wreath is an inscription divided into four lines:
DAS/VATERLAND SEINEM TAPFERN/VERTHEIDIGER (Homeland to his brave defender).
The medals are equipped with a wide hanging arm through which a ribbon of dark pink color passes. The ribbon has a prescribed width of 38 mm.
