The star was minted at the calcutta mint from the bronze of captured cannons. The center medallion is made of silver and bears the names of both battles and either MAHARAJPOOR or PUNNIAR, and the date 29th DEC, 1843. Later the soldiers gave unofficially to attach to the medals the-ear or square hinges.
