The order was designed for India. Was established in three stages. In 1902 was founded the civil division, the latter, however, awarded very rarely. From 1911 to the indian unit to receive the Victoria Cross and 1. the class was cancelled. In 1939 it was the civil division reduced to one class and the military division in 1944. In this year he changed the inscription in the central medallion of Awarded for Valour to Awarded for Gallantry .
The order was produced at the Royal mint, in the Calcutta mint, and with private companies, such as J.W.Benson Ltd., Ludgate Hill, London.
The figure is a specimen from the years 1945-47.
