Medaile Řádu Britského impéria za statečnost (Medal of the British Empire for Gallantry) normálně nazývaná zkráceně Empire Gallantry Medal (EGM) vznikla rozdělením původní medaile Medal of the British Empire na Medal of the British Empire for Gallantry a Medal of the British Empire for Meritorius Service (uděluje se dodnes). EGM se udělovala do roku 1940, kdy byla nahrazena Křížem Jiřího (George Cross). Je extrémně vzácná, protože jí bylo uděleno jen 130 kusů. Po roce 1940, tj. po vzniku George Crossu si ji mohli nositelé nebo jejich potomci vyměnit za tento kříž. To se stalo ve 112 případech. Takže EGM je mnohem vzácnější než např. Victoria Cross i když jeho věhlasu nikdy nedosáhla. Udělovala se ve dvou divizích, vojenské a civilní odlišených stuhami. Vojenská skupina měla na stuze do roku 1937 centrální červený proužek, po roce 1937 perleťově šedivý centrální proužek. Civilní skupina měla stuhy bez centrálního proužku. Původní stuhy byly fialové, v červenci 1937 byly změněny na růžové s perleťově šedými okraji. Nositelé byli oprávněni uvádět za svým jménem zkratku EGM. Bohužel lepší obrázek jsem zatím nenašel.
