Regimental History:
The regiment was recruited in Inner Austria in 1616 by appointment on 2 September of that year. Originally it consisted of three battalions, but the following year it was expanded to five battalions at the expense of Archduke Maximilian. The regiment first took part in the battles against Venice and then in the battles of the Thirty Years' War. In 1618 it was in Bohemia and took part in the operations at Jindřichův Hradec and Pelhřimov. In 1619, three battalions of the regiment, together with one battalion of another Dampierre regiment, moved to Vienna, where they helped the Emperor Ferdinand, who was oppressed by the Estates leaders, with their presence. The regiment had further encounters at Ulrichskirchen and Vienna. In 1620 Heinrich Dampierre-Duval died and ownership of the regiment passed to its former commander, Jacob von Dampierre, under whom regiment the regiment had a number of further encounters.
