Hlinka Guard Aviation Department

The pilots and Hlinka's guard in the new Slovak state were not very inclined to each other and during the war their mutual resistance was still escalating. Due to the forced departure of Czech pilots from the base, there was an acute shortage of pilots. They tried to solve this problem by moving Slovak pilots from the Czech Republic and organizing pilot courses. In Spišská Nová Ves, on March 15, 1939, this course was moved under the leadership of the Hlinka Guard.

In 1939, the aviation department of the National Aviation took over the aviation department of the HG, and in 1940 it created its own aviation corps. It performed its activities in the field of modeling, sailing and motor aviation. From 1938 to 1943, the HG Air Corps trained 200 pilots in non-powered and 160 in powered flying. At the same time, 200 pilots underwent air defense pre-training.

The main command of the Hlinka Guard to lead the aviation department employed a man who had a high school education, finished his military service and was politically reliable. They preferred reserve officers for this position. The salary of a manager in the aviation department was CZK 2,000 per month.

Hlinka Guard Motorized Department

The HG motorized department organized driving courses through training centers set up in each county.

The aeronautical and motorized HG had its center in the Andrej Hlinka House on Námestí on May 1, 22/b in Bratislava.

Hlinka Guard Equestrian Department

The HG headquarters included riding officers in the organizational, economic department, and there was also a special breeding officer. At each headquarters were appointed riding officers, who were in charge of the organization, training and had to take care of the needs of HG riders, breeders and cyclists. Any member of the HG ride could be any guard who had his own horse, or he could buy it for training and the need for HG riding. They could get a horse from the military administration. The commander of the equestrian department was Pavol Teplanský.
