It was created 1.6. 1798 as a Kyrysnícky regiment in Ašbach in Lower Austria.
1802 - assigned the name of the 6th Dragoon Regiment
1860 - assigned the name of the 12th Kyrysnícky Regiment
1867 - assigned the name of the 12th Dragoon Regiment
