Medal for utility For usage
The silver octagonal medal measuring 34x34 mm was founded by Empress Catherine II. in 1793.
The Empress wanted to appreciate and reward the visibly worn medal, especially the Cossacks and members of the courier service. The vast Tsarist Russia was dependent on its couriers, and the service of couriers was honest and often inherited from father to son.
Medal description: Obverse: The medal has raised edges on both sides. Empress Catherine II is depicted in the area of the medal. from the left (heraldic). The Empress has her famous diamond crown and the Order of St. Andrew. At the bottom of the medal is the artist's code: "T.I.F." (Timofey Ivanov Fecit).
Reverse: There are unusual things in the area of the medal. There is a bushy tree with fruit and a beehive. Everything stands on plowed land. At the top of the medal is a simple inscription: "ПОЛЕЗНОЕ" (Benefit or benefit)
The medal was worn on the ribbon of the Order of St. Alexandra, couriers, also wore it as a necklace medal. The Cossacks fastened it to their Cossack uniform in various ways, even by sewing.
