Red Cross Society Medals
Медали Общества Красного Креста
The Red Cross is represented in almost all European countries by its organisations, but it can appreciate its loyal or committed citizens by the visibly worn decoration. Yugoslavia quite reasonably solved this problem with a seemingly uniform decoration, which differs only in the hanging on which the inscription of the Republic (within the SFRY) appears. We will demonstrate these decorations.
Description of the decoration:
Obverse:
Circular medal with a simple motif of the Red Cross.
Obverse:
Plain medal with manufacturer's logo.
All medals are the same or it was certainly a bit cheaper for the sponsoring manufacturer.
At the top of the decoration there is a small hanging loop to hang on a small metal peg with the inscription:
RED CROSS + inscription (Serbia, Vojvodina, Kossovo, Croatia, etc).
These "official" decorations are divided into two levels:
- 1st level, gold medal
- 2nd level, silver medal
In the individual republics, other badges or decorations were awarded, which we classify as federal or commemorative medals.
During the war, the Yugoslav Red Cross worked in all sections of combat activity. Independent Croatia established its own Red Cross as early as 1941 (it was not recognized).
After the dissolution of the SFRY, the Red Cross in the successor territories continued the traditions of both the Serbian Red Cross and the Red Cross in the period 1920-1941. These simple decorations are sought after and with proof of award are not cheap.
